All of my previous deployment (all two of them) ended before Thanksgiving. I have never missed Thanksgiving, Chanukkah, Tu B’Shvat before. Okinawa does not count. I was stationed there for three years.
We
started the day at a “Turkey Shoot”, with the guys competing on the range,
shooting at paper turkeys. They got points for shots that were inside the outline
of the turkey, extra points for hitting the spray-painted part of the head, and
body. It was more fun than I expected.
We came together in the galley, I led us in prayer, and the night was wonderful. This outstation is such a close-knit group of people. I loved visiting.
